Chandrayaan-3 lands near the lunar south pole

Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh

Launched from Sriharikota on 14 July, Vikram lands near 69°S on 23 August, at the time the closest soft landing to the Moon's south pole.

An LVM3 rocket carried the spacecraft from the second launch pad at Sriharikota. Vikram set down at about 69.4°S, 32.3°E, a site ISRO named Shiv Shakti point, and the Pragyan rover rolled out the next day; India became the fourth country to soft-land on the Moon, after the Soviet Union, the United States and China.

Sixty years earlier, in November 1963, India's first sounding rocket had gone up from Thumba. The pin is the launch site; the landing site is off this map.
