The eighteen-day war between the Pandavas and Kauravas, and the setting of the Bhagavad Gita.

The Mahabharata's war is fought on the plain of Kurukshetra, about 160 km north of Delhi, and the Bhagavad Gita is set on the field before the first day's fighting.

Painted Grey Ware settlements of roughly 1200 to 600 BCE cluster in the same Kuru country, and B. B. Lal found the ware at sites the epic names, Hastinapura among them. That is as close as archaeology comes to the story: it shows the region was settled in the right era, not that the war took place.
